Expert: Social media active authors number falls 10% since end Feb

MOSCOW, May 23 (PRIME) -- The number of active authors in social networks in Russia decreased only 10% in the period of February 24–May 15, and the volume of daily posted content shrank 8%, according to a study by researcher Brand Analytics seen by PRIME on May 21.

“Since the start of the special operation the number of active authors on all the social media platforms in total fell only by 10% by mid-May regardless of the blocking of Instagram and Facebook (designated as extremist and banned in the country) and Twitter and a switch-off of monetization on YouTube. VKontakte, Telegram, and Odnoklassniki showed growth,” Brand Analytics said.

VKontakte has the highest rise by content. “Users come to VKontakte, but they become active later. The number of authors as of May 15 counted 3.96 million, an 18% rise from February 24. The volume of posted content counts 13.5 million units per day, a 12% rise,” the researcher said.

Telegram had 860,000 active authors as of May 15, up 23%, and the volume of content added 2% to 7.15 million units daily.

Brand Analytics also said that migration of users between the platforms had paused by mid-May.
